Glade Dance Collective to perform at Jack Guidone Theater
-- For immediate release --
WASHINGTON (Feb. 7, 2012) -- Glade Dance Collective and guest artists Terra Dance Project will perform two evenings of modern dance at the Jack Guidone Theater in Friendship Heights on Feb. 18 and 19, 2012.
Tickets are $15 presale (joyofmotion.tix.com) and $20 at the door.
Each night will feature a first look at two new Glade works, four pieces of existing Glade repertoire, two performances by Terra, and three new solos for Glade members.
The show will open with "Khora," which received acclaim as the show opener at Joy of Motion's Dance Project in December 2011. Working exclusively with the haunting and stimulating sounds of electronic music group Ratatat, choreographer Alina Hall Sabadish developed “Khora” to showcase the power of breath and the female body.
"The Fela Project," created by Glade founder Sylvana Christopher Sandoz with guest artist Vaunita Goodman, will premiere at this performance. It is inspired by the music and life of Nigerian Afro-beat originator: the one and only Fela Anikulapo Ransome Kuti.
Rounding out the program are Glade cornerstone works, "Health/Care" and "District. Defined?" - both presented here with new casts and stories. Other pieces include "The Island," excerpts from "The Wall" and a selection of solos by Glade members Lauren Borchard, Emma Dozier, Betsy Loikow, Caitlin Russi and Sylvana Christopher Sandoz.
Terra Dance Project will present "3 Girls Named Doreen" and "Recurring Revolutions" in their first performance in D.C.

About Terra Dance Project
Terra Dance Project was founded by four James Madison University dance graduates looking for ways to integrate their education and shared experiences into quality, 'real-world' art. Company members cover a lot of Virginia ground, with home lives and careers spanning across the commonwealth--from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidewater region.
Terra's mission is to bring innovative, unique and varied dance to audiences throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond -- without establishing 'home' in any one place -- in an effort to see more dance, share more dance, learn more dance, and do more dance.
About the Jack Guidone Theater
The Jack Guidone Theater, located at Joy of Motion Dance Center Friendship Heights, opened in 1995 as a casual and intimate theater space named for one of Joy of Motion Dance Center's founding faculty members. Jack Guidone was a dancer, choreographer, teacher, designer, and mask maker. Mr. Guidone, who died in 1987, was a long-time force in the DC arts scene. The theater honors the creative spirit of Mr. Guidone by presenting the works of many new and developing artists.
The Jack Guidone Theater space provides a much needed performance venue for small scale productions. The space also functions as a home for most of JOMDC's in-house and student productions, as well as being an affordable and popular venue for new artists and companies, as well as established artists desiring an intimate space in which to show their work.
